In Honor Of

February has come to an end. In this short month that featured tons of fashion in NYC, love, great TV, and bitter weather... there was also significant black history to be recognized. If you know me personally, you already know that I share a Quote of the Day during the week with my friends (which I will also begin to share with you here in Blogger Land). Since the beginning of February I've featured quotes from extraordinary Black leaders, writers, actors entertainers..etc in honor of this historic month. Here are some of my favorites, Enjoy...

*If you have no critics, you have no success.- Malcolm X

*God and nature first made us what we are, and then out of our own created genius we make ourselves what we want to be. Follow always the great law: Let the sky and God be our limit and eternity our measurement.- Marcus Garvey

*We all suffer from the preoccupation that there exists in the loved one, perfection.
- Sidney Poitier

*Hold fast your dreams, for without them life is broken winged bird that cannot fly.
-Langston Hughes

*I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will never forget how you made them feel.- Maya Angelou

*Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. - Harriet Tubman.

I beg your pardon?!?

"They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill," reads the caption.
Seriously??? I know that Sean Delonas is sort of known for his "controversial" illustrations but this is just outlandishly disrespectful! It's understandable that everyone has an opinion regarding the stimulus package but, comparing President Obama and or his decision making to a drug induced out of control chimpanzee is a bit much to say the absolute least!
But just so we're clear on who the artist is, here are some of his other fine works you may have seen:

NYC Fashion Week highlights

Who am I?

Who am I? beautiful, smart, cool, down to earth, sociable, loving, good spirited, goal oriented and all my guy friends and completely strangers say I'm a "great look", "good catch" & "wifey material" even...who am I? -only 90% of the (mostly Black) girls I know!...why are they single?? Family members, other friends & even random strangers question it. I've heard intimidating, not the right time, perhaps TOO picky but none of it really makes any sense to me. Somebody help me understand...

Settling in Love?

Damn! everyone is in the mood to talk about the "lovery" lately... Must be the V-day bug... So As per a conversation I had with one of my homeboys yesterday, knowing I am a lover of all things quoted he hit me with this personal one: "In life we come across certain things that you think is great but it may be bad for you. Sometimes you have to make the hardest decision and let things go and if it was real love and it was meant to be it will come back, if not you know it was not real love. But the question is what is real love? & do u settle when you are in love?

- My answer to him was absolutely not. I feel like when you are truly in love there is no where else I'd... (eh-hem) ..You'd rather be than in love with that one person no matter what the circumstances are, whether its long distance, you have financial troubles, if your peoples don't approve, despite it all, in that moment you can't even see outside the box so how could you possibly be settling?

And so now my question is would you ever choose to settle and stay if you are no longer in love with that person? I know some that think its OK because the excuse is ..."well, we've invested so much, so.." is that alright?? and how would you feel if you found out that the person you love is only with you because they've already "invested" so they feel like they might as well stay?

Fashion Hats Off!

Fun Black History Fashion Fact: Donyale Luna was the first African American model to be featured on the cover of British Vogue magazine. She was also one of only two Black models to be associated with Andy Warhol Studios in the early 70's, although her Career was short lived, she still helped paved the way for other fierce brown skinned girls to come... Hats off to you darling...RIP

Fearless

This is one of My Favorite Quotes,it reminds me to be bold even when I'm a little doubtful- how does it make you feel??
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. –Maryanne Williamson

Used by Nelson Mandela in 1994 inaugural speech.
