No more "tum" for Jourdan Dunn

Congratulations are in order! Nineteen year old British sensation Jourdan Dunn gave birth to her first child on Tuesday. It's been reported that she's doing well and her and her boyfriend of five years couldn't be happier about their new addition. Hmmm...Interesting. Funny how having a successful modeling career sort of excuses you in the media, from the stigma of a "typical teenge mother". Let this be me!? Nothing but drama. [LOL] Ms. Dunn either has a great support system, or simply doesn't care what people have to say. In any case, I wish her well.

Sweet Tee of the week

Well...If I told you guys that I had an icon hanging out in my closet then you wouldn't believe me. So that is how she became the sweet tee. Last weekend I was on Fifth Avenue, desperately trying NOT to shop. [I'll pause so you can laugh now] Well, as you've guessed that didn't go so well once I stepped into the Zara. So after I made this $29.99 purchase, I started to wonder how long I'd been walking this earth not knowing about this tribute to Grace Jones? So I did a little research and apparently there was also a grey sweatshirt which is also pictured here. I adore any model that paved the way for chocolate colored women to make a name for themselves on and off the runways of fashion! She's one of the original divas in the game and I'm proud to walk around with that huge lively expression of hers on my chest.

Magazine Fly- Vogue's Girl of the year

Model Lara Stone has been named "The Girl of the Year" by UK Vogue. She is featured in the upcoming December Issue and the cover is fabulous! Lara has been all over the runways as well as print this year, and with this new title, she's sure to stay relevent for a while. I do have to say, this is quite a step up from the blackface shoot. [Refer to the "Haute-Couture or Haute mess" post below, for details.] Either way, I really looking forward to reading this!

Mark Fast likes em Thick

Mark Fast decided that twelve was new zero last month when he threw the "plus size" girls in the mix of the bite size [no quote necessary] ones during his show in London Fashion Week. Mark told In Style Magazine "I didn't think it would get so much attention. I just thought, 'They're beautiful. Let's do it. Let's have fun'". I would describe his line as one that is modern, soft and feminine & playful. It works for a variety of women including curvier girls. The designer also said "I was able to make the clothes specifically for them. Seeing them walking up and down the corridor was such a moment. It was exciting to see their characters in my pieces" In all honesty this was a great move both business wise and for the moral of the fashion industry. It's fabulous to see something other then the typical heroin chic stick figures on the runway. “After the show, we had a host of customers from size six to 16 coming in." This displays an excellent way of attracting more consumers to your product. Kudos to Mr. Fast, how ironic is his name in comparison to the women he’s tried to uplift though?!? HA! In any case, way to go against the grain!

Fun Black History Fashion Fact: Donyale Luna was the first African American model to be featured on the cover of British Vogue magazine. She was also one of only two Black models to be associated with Andy Warhol Studios in the early 70's, although her Career was short lived, she still helped paved the way for other fierce brown skinned girls to come... Hats off to you darling...RIP
